For the eighth successive month now car sales have risen with the market up 26.4% on this time last year. The car market has exceeded all expectations, with a total of 68,686 cars sold in the UK last month. 19.6% of the figure was from the scrappage scheme. The demand for smaller cars continues to rise and the three best sellers for February were the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and VW Golf.

General Motors has been unable to complete the sale of it’s Hummer brand to China-based Tengzhong and will now wind down operations of the vehicles. General Motors has said it will close down Hummer after a chinese bid collapsed. Sales of the giant cars have slumped from more than 71,000 in the US in 2006 to just over 9,000 last year.

German tuning firm, and Corvette specialist, Loma Performance have upgraded the Corvette C6 and created the C6 Blackforce One.
The Blackforce One pumps out a massive 783bhp through a twin-turbo V8, along with a sports exhaust system and rebuilt gearbox all pushing the car from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and an incredible top speed of 205mph. A recent survey showed some extraordinary results in which 9% of motorists said they loved their car as much as their family!
The survey by Carmony.co.uk showed that drivers had a real connection with their cars, with one third of 1,271 people questioned admitting that they were “very fond” of their vehicles. With the Scrappage Scheme coming to an end shortly, car makers are taking the matter of incentives into their own hands by offering deals themselves, and Hyundai have hopped onto the bandwagon along with Toyota, who have recently announced the introduction of their “Swappage Scheme”.
However, Hyundai’s scheme differs from the car swap and £2,000 discount that Toyota are offering.

Saab, the struggling Swedish car firm that once made fighter jets, is being sold to Spyker, the luxury sports car maker based in the Netherlands. After months of speculation, General Motors finally confirmed that they had found a buyer after trying to sell Saab for the last twelve months.

A report from the Sustainable Developments Commission calls for government ministers to introduce averaging speed cameras onto all Britain’s motorways in a bid to cut CO2 emissions.
Data from the Department of Transport shows that 52% of drivers tend to break the 70mph limit on motorways. Averaging speed cameras measure a car’s speed over a long distance, thereby making overall driving smoother and avoiding heavy braking at a speed camera then accelerating away. Actually, this wasn’t unveiled by BMW and isn’t even one of their innovations. It’s a Honda Odyssey minivan that’s been transformed into a BMW by an unknown modifier.
