Car Leasing Maintenance and Warranty: What You Should Know

Posted in Leasing Options,

Before you lease that car, go over the maintenance and warranty coverage to know exactly what is and is not covered. This is something that you probably wouldn’t even think about at first. After all, your thoughts are going to be centered on getting in that new car and showing it off to all of your friends. Still, the maintenance and warranty coverage is very important.

One of the perks associated with leasing a vehicle is the fact that it will be under warranty and you don’t have to worry about maintenance. However, all leasing contracts can vary and the coverage you have will depend on which leasing company you use, the make, model and year of the vehicle along with the length of time you’re leasing. If you don’t know exactly what your contract covers, then you may find yourself dealing with some major problems.

You need to make sure that the warranty and the maintenance coverage will last through the duration of the contract and if it doesn’t, then you need to know exactly what coverage you have. You don’t want to end up paying for major maintenance such as replacing the brakes or doing engine work when you don’t even own the vehicle. All you should have to worry about is simple things such as changing the oil and rotating the tires.

If you know exactly what the car leasing maintenance and warranty coverage takes care of, then you’ll know what your responsibilities are. Although a certain amount of wear and tear is acceptable, the vehicle needs to be in good shape when returned at the end of the lease. Otherwise, you’re going to be responsible for any damage done and any problems caused by neglect. It’s your responsibility to make sure the vehicle maintenance is kept up and the best way to do that is by knowing what coverage you have.

Take care of the vehicle as if you do own it. Get it serviced when needed and take care of all general maintenance and you shouldn’t have any problems. If anything major occurs while the vehicle is in your care, be sure and report it to the leasing company immediately.
